What to count: events that match revenue
Good tracking answers the question every owner asks on a Monday morning: where did last week's calls, forms and sales come from? Our team builds the measurement behind our SEO service and all of our online marketing services, so every campaign is judged on the leads it brings in and every dollar goes where it does the most good.
Google Analytics 4 is the base. Universal Analytics stopped processing data on 1 July 2023, so GA4 now holds your reporting, and Google Tag Manager works alongside it as the control panel for tags, triggers and variables. A new conversion is a quick change inside Tag Manager, with your site's code left untouched.
Every setup we build begins with a measurement plan that lists the actions that make you money: phone calls, form submissions, bookings, purchases and inquiries. Everything else is context. Counting those few things correctly is worth more than a hundred metrics on a dashboard, and it shows which landing pages conversion consulting should improve first.
In GA4 any event can be marked a key event, and key events can become Google Ads conversions. The booked appointment in your analytics is then the same one your ad account optimizes toward. Enhanced conversions send hashed first-party data from your site when a visitor converts, which sharpens the match between your ads and your results.
Clean data comes from careful habits, and we keep them on every account: consistent event names, parameters such as form name and service, internal traffic filtered out and duplicates removed, so a reloaded thank-you page counts one lead once. We document every event in a tracking sheet, showing what it counts, where it fires and why it exists, and we train your team to read it, so the setup stays clear for years.

GA4 and Tag Manager, done once and documented
A tidy setup is one Google Analytics 4 property, one Tag Manager container and one naming scheme, with every change versioned and documented. One of each means one version of the truth. Call tracking, chat and form tools feed the same events, so the totals match wherever you read them.
Every tag is tested before it goes live, in three places: Tag Manager's preview mode, the browser's network panel and GA4's real-time view, on more than one device. A tag that passes all three is counting exactly what it claims to count.
Search work runs on the same accounts. The Search Console link and the reporting behind Google Search Console work draw on this setup, and so does AI search visibility, where visits from AI answers are read beside ordinary clicks.
Consent signals and Consent Mode
Your tags should honor the choices your visitors make. Google's consent mode passes four signals, ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization, and tags adjust their behavior to match. Version two of consent mode adds the last two, which Google ties to its EU user consent policy and traffic from the European Economic Area.
We connect your consent banner to those signals, line the tags up with your privacy policy and then test both answers: a visitor who accepts and a visitor who declines each see the site behave exactly as promised. The policy and banner themselves are built through cookie consent and privacy compliance.
Chrome still lets people choose whether to allow third-party cookies, so the cookie plan is a consent plan. That puts the work where it pays: asking clearly and honoring the answer, so the data you collect is data you can trust.
Server-side tagging and data quality
Server-side tagging moves part of the measurement from the visitor's browser to a server container you control, which can run on Google Cloud (Cloud Run or App Engine) or on a platform of your choice. Google lists three gains: better page performance, more detailed privacy controls and better data quality.
In practice, cleaner events reach Google Analytics and Google Ads, and data you prefer to keep private is held back before it leaves your server. You decide what is shared, the reports you read are built on tidier data, and consented audiences from it drive ads that reach past visitors.
We recommend server-side tagging where your traffic or data needs make it pay for itself, and we keep the standard setup wherever that already serves you well. When reporting needs grow past a dashboard, business intelligence reporting takes the data further.
Reports the owner reads
Your monthly report is short and comes with a call to walk through it: leads by source, cost per lead, conversion rate by landing page and the share of leads that became sales, with a note on what changed. Those numbers say where the money went and what it brought back.
Once a week we check the counts against your inbox, your call history and your CRM, so a tracking problem is caught within days and your numbers stay ones you can use.
Display, video and social retargeting ads that bring past website visitors back to convert, segmented by what they viewed.
Analytics and Tracking Questions & Answers
Is Universal Analytics still available?
No. Standard Universal Analytics properties stopped processing data on 1 July 2023. Google Analytics 4 replaced it, with reports, events and conversions structured differently, which is why we build every GA4 setup from a fresh measurement plan rather than copying old settings.
What is Consent Mode and do Ineed it?
Consent Mode lets Google tags adjust to each visitor's cookie choices through signals such as ad_storage and analytics_storage. Version two adds ad_user_data and ad_personalization, needed for traffic from the European Economic Area. Advertisers reaching that traffic need it, and it is sound practice for every other audience too.
What does server-sidetagging change?
A server you control receives the browser's measurement requests and forwards them to your tools. That gives you control over which data leaves your site and how events are cleaned. Google names the gains as faster pages, finer privacy controls and better data quality, and each one shows up in the reports you read.
How do you check that callsand formsare counted?
By running the real path before launch: a test form, a test call to a tracked number, and each event watched as it arrives in Tag Manager preview and the GA4 real-time view. After launch we compare the totals with your inbox, call history and CRM week by week, so the numbers you act on are numbers you can trust.
Can you work with the accounts we already have?
Yes. We review your existing Analytics, Tag Manager, Google Ads and Search Console setup, keep what is sound, clean up the rest and build forward from there, so the history you have collected keeps its value.
