From Catalog to Checkout

Shoppers leave a store they cannot navigate, and they abandon a checkout that asks too much. We build store layouts with strong search and filtering, and a checkout that is short, clear and tested on phones, because the last step is where sales are lost.

We configure Authorize.net, PayPal and Stripe to each processor's requirements, connect USPS or FedEx shipping and upload your product data, so the store opens ready to sell. Stores on Authorize.net also get QuickBooks sync, added by our Los Angeles developers, so every sale reaches your books with nothing retyped.

Platform choice follows your catalog and growth plans: Shopify for a hosted store, WooCommerce for WordPress stores, Magento for larger catalogs, or a custom shopping cart when your product configurator, venue seating or sales funnel exceeds what a template handles.

After launch, we either train your staff to manage products, orders and reports, or run the store for you. Either way, the people who built it stay available for changes.

WHO IT IS FOR

Choosing between Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and a custom cart

Your platform decides how easily your team runs the store day to day, and how far it can grow before it needs rebuilding. We match it to your catalog and the way your shoppers buy, not to a platform we happen to prefer.

For finished work, look at the store we built for Sportslick and the customizable domino sets of the Alex Cramer Company. Here is how the four options compare.

  • Shopify development suits brands that want a hosted store with a proven checkout, with custom themes and apps where the standard ones fall short.
  • WooCommerce integration suits sellers who want a WordPress site and a store together, with a catalog your own team can manage.
  • Magento integration suits large catalogs and unusual requirements, such as syncing with your accounting or point-of-sale system.
  • Custom shopping carts are worth it when buyers configure a product, choose a seat or move through a multi-step offer.

Getting paid: gateway, processor and merchant account

Many merchants have had a new account suspended or flagged for fraud over mistakes that were avoidable. Three pieces have to agree. The merchant account holds your money, the processor moves it, and the gateway carries the buyer's card details between your store and both.

A mismatch among the three, or a missing business detail, is what gets new accounts held. So we set them up together, whether your gateway is PayPal, Stripe or Authorize.net, and run real checkouts before launch. Your first buyer shouldn't be the one who finds the problem.

Product not built yet? A crowdfunding campaign can raise its first orders before the store even opens, and we can run that campaign as well. A client we supported through launch raised over $100,000 on Kickstarter and met its funding goal.

What is checked before a store goes live

A customer taps a card on a plain payment terminal at a shop counter while the assistant smiles.

Before your store opens, we walk the full buying path the way a buyer would, on a desktop and on a phone.

The same web design and development team that designed and programmed your store runs the check. Once you're live, our website maintenance team keeps the store updated and backed up. The check covers five things.

  • A test order from product page to confirmation email proves the whole path works before a buyer tries it.
  • Tax, shipping rates and carrier connections, with carrier rates and order feeds running through API integration.
  • Return, privacy and shipping policy pages, the ones careful buyers read before they pay.
  • Product data, categories and filters, so shoppers find what they came for.
  • Analytics and conversion tracking, so from the first order you can see where sales come from.

E-Commerce Questions & Answers

Can you set up payment processing for our store?

Yes. We configure the account and the checkout together, following each processor's requirements.

When do I need a custom shopping cart?

When buyers build a product, pick a seat or a package, or move through a multi-step funnel with upsells, a plug-and-play cart falls short. We build a custom checkout around that flow.

Can you also photograph the products?

Yes. Our product photographers shoot to your marketplace and site specifications as part of the same project.

Which platform is best for my online store?

A team on WordPress gets the most from WooCommerce, a large catalog points to Magento, a buying process no platform supports calls for a custom cart, and a store that wants its hosting handled for it is a fit for Shopify. We build on all four and recommend the one that is right for your products, payment processor and budget.

Can you help list my products on Amazon as well?

Yes, through our Amazon marketing service. It covers the parts shoppers judge a listing by, its photos and description, along with registering your brand with Amazon, which opens up more tools, and keeping other sellers off your listings. Our own photographers shoot the product photos too.

Technical note for your team

Checkout design and PCI DSS 4.0.1

Every checkout we build keeps card numbers off your server and every script on the payment page known and checked, so your buyers pay on a page that stays secure.

Technical details for your team

A checkout is the one page where design, security and compliance meet. The PCI DSS standard asks two things of an e-commerce payment page. Every script on it must be authorized and checked for integrity, and any unauthorized change to the page must be detected. We build every checkout to meet both, so your buyers pay on a page that stays secure.

For Shopify stores, Shopify development covers themes, checkout extensions and migrations, and a headless storefront separates the front end from the platform that runs your catalog and orders. Products people want to see in place come alive with WebGL and 3D web experiences on their product pages. Whatever the platform, every checkout we build follows five practices.

  • Hosted fields or a redirect keep card numbers off your server.
  • Every script on a payment page has an owner and a reason to be there.
  • Change detection watches payment pages for unexpected edits.
  • The right Self-Assessment Questionnaire follows from the integration, which is why it is chosen before the build.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay shorten checkout on phones, and we place them beside the card form.
