From Sketch to Production

We have taken many products from idea stage through prototype and production. Our designers weigh aesthetics against functionality at every step, because a product must work as well as it photographs.

Modern techniques such as 3D rendering let you see a functioning model of your product before a prototype exists. You can review proportions and materials, improve the design and even test some of the functionality, which cuts the cost of changes before production begins.

We bring extensive patent experience to the work and prepare patent drawings, so a design is documented clearly and ready to protect.

Renderings serve more than design review. They also support early marketing, crowdfunding pages and conversations with manufacturers before the first prototype is paid for.

From sketch to specification

An idea becomes a product one decision at a time. Concept sketches test whether it works at all, a 3D model fixes the form, proportions and parts, and renderings show the materials and finishes before anything is made.

The specification closes the sequence: dimensions, materials and tolerances written so a manufacturer can quote against them. Changes cost least on screen and most in tooling, which is why renderings come before any prototype.

From rendering to prototype

Once the renderings look right, a physical prototype proves the design in the hand. It is made from the files and specification prepared during the design work, by 3D printing, machining or casting, whichever suits the part.

With a manufacturer already in mind, we design to their requirements from the start. Their tooling, materials and minimum runs shape the details, so the prototype you approve is one they can produce.

Using the design to launch

Two people inspect a handmade prototype, turning it in their hands.

Renderings start selling a product before it exists. Backers pledge against the images, so a Kickstarter campaign can fund the first production run before the first unit is made, and the same drawings support your patent filing.

When the item is ready to sell, package design builds the box, product photography captures it for the store and logo design gives it a mark of its own. Product design is one part of our design services, so every launch piece comes from one team.

Renderings you can open on a phone

A rendering that turns in a buyer's hand persuades in a way a still image never can. A 3D model prepared for the web rotates in a phone browser, opens from a link in an email and needs no special software on the other end.

We build the model from your CAD file, the engineering drawing of the part, or from a sculpt, and check dimensions and materials with you before anything goes public. One model then supplies every format you need.

  • A web viewer for your product page, built to load quickly.
  • An augmented-reality view on phones that support it.
  • A turntable video for ads and social posts.
  • Packaging mockups on the same model.
  • Export formats for your store, your ads and your printer.
  • Interactive 3D product viewers for the web that put the model on your own site.

Product Design Questions & Answers

Can you improve a product that already exists?

Yes. We review the current product, find the changes in form or function that matter most and render the revised version, which shows the improvement before any new tooling is paid for.

How do you support a patent filing?

With the patent drawings and renderings your filing needs, prepared by a team with extensive patent experience, so the invention is shown clearly and accurately from every side.

What do you need to start?

A sketch, a written description or an existing product you want to improve. From there the work moves into concepts and renderings.

How do we get from design to production?

Step by step, with our team beside you. We prepare everything a manufacturer needs to produce it: the specification, the drawings and the renderings, designed to their tooling and materials. The prototype then proves the design in your hand, so production starts from a product you have already held.

What do the renderings let me do before a prototype?

Review proportions, materials and finishes on screen, compare options side by side and test some of the function, all while changes still cost little. You commit to tooling only once the design looks and works the way you want.
