Every Page Has a Job

Each page on a strong website does one thing well: capture a lead, sell a product or answer the question that stops a purchase. We start from those jobs, map the pages that perform them and design the path a visitor takes between the first click and the contact form.

Our developers write the site from scratch in the language and framework that suits the project, whether PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails, Java or JavaScript, on MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle or NoSQL databases. The result is a site that loads quickly, behaves on phones and tablets, and can grow with your business.

Page structure, metadata and speed are settled during the build, not patched in afterward: titles and descriptions are written for each page, URLs are kept clean and analytics is in place on launch day.

Portfolio examples range from law firm and university sites to media portals and large e-commerce stores, including work for Univision, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and ETCentric at USC.

WHO IT IS FOR

Companies replacing an outdated brochure site, professional-services firms that depend on inquiries, and organizations that need a web portal or media platform that off-the-shelf templates cannot support.

Every site has a goal

Since 2003, our websites have been built with a goal in mind: making sales, converting leads or promoting your brand. We learn what your visitors want and what makes them hesitate, then design an experience that answers both, so more of them become clients.

Already have a site that looks fine but doesn't bring in inquiries? Website conversion consulting is the first step. The same goal drove the redesigned lead-generation page with live chat we delivered for My Tax Help Attorney, which doubled its website conversion rate. For a site built to promote a company's product lines and bring in leads, see Key Watcher Systems.

A focused team of creative, technically skilled and commercially minded designers and developers builds each site around your needs, from a lead-generation site to a store with heavy traffic.

Custom website or template: how to decide

If your content is simple and the goal is just to get online, a template will do the job, and we'll tell you so. A custom build does much more when the site has to work: qualify leads, take structured orders, serve buyers who log in or carry a brand no template matches.

Sometimes the answer sits in between. If your team wants to edit pages themselves, we build a custom theme on WordPress and plan the build around it. Whichever route you take, the build is clean, tested and ready to grow with you.

Custom builds are the core of our web design and development work. That means the team that builds your site can add a store, an integration or an application later.

Your Custom Website Process

A project manager walks a client through a wall of paper wireframes and sticky notes, pointing at one step.

A custom build has a lot of moving parts, so every project has a lead project manager, and our custom website development process has six steps. Each step ends with something you can review, and you always know where your site stands.

  1. GoalsWe start by pinning down your goals, your audience and the pages that must perform, so every later decision has something to measure against.
  2. WireframesNext come a page map and wireframes, the blueprint of each page, which you review before design starts, so the layout is settled on paper, not in code.
  3. DesignWe design the home page and each key kind of page, and you approve them before programming begins.
  4. BuildThen we build it: the programming, the content entry and every integration the site needs.
  5. Testing and redirectsWe test across browsers and devices and set up redirects from your old URLs, so visitors and search engines that knew your old pages land on the new ones.
  6. HandoverFinally your team learns to edit content, or our website maintenance plan takes it over.

How a modern custom site is built

A modern custom site feels fast because the server prepares each page before it reaches the browser. We build on TypeScript and React with server rendering, so every page arrives ready to read, whether your visitor is on a phone in a parking lot or a laptop at a desk.

The same care runs through the rest of the build. Our team checks every item on this list before your site goes live, and keeps checking it with every release after launch.

  • A content system your team edits, so copy changes never wait for a developer.
  • Pages served ready-made for speed, with live parts only where a page needs them.
  • Accessibility and speed checked before launch, against Core Web Vitals and WCAG 2.2.
  • Every change is previewed first, with a quick way back if it is ever needed.
  • A framework chosen for the job, which for most of these sites means building on Next.js.

Specialist website work, from accessibility to 3D

Some website jobs are specialties of their own. A website accessibility audit brings a site to WCAG 2.2, and Core Web Vitals optimization fixes load and response times in code.

Design systems for websites and apps keep many pages consistent, and WebGL and 3D web experiences add interactive product viewers.

An online store that has outgrown its theme can benefit from separating the storefront from the commerce engine. If the same product also needs an app, see cross-platform app development.

Custom Websites Questions & Answers

Will the website be built on a template?

No. Every custom website is designed and coded around your content and goals, so nothing about it is borrowed from a ready-made layout.

How do you protect search visibility when you redesign?

Step by step, before and after launch. We map every existing URL to its new address, carry over the titles and descriptions that already bring in traffic and set up every redirect. Once the new site is live, we watch how Google reads it and fix anything that needs attention.

What do I need to provide?

Your goals, any brand assets and the content you already have. We handle structure, design, programming and, where you want it, copywriting and photography.

How long does a custom website take?

A site with a few kinds of page moves faster than one with a portal, a calculator or a member area. We set the schedule with you in your Free Consultation, and you sign off each step as it lands. Copy and photographs ready early bring launch day closer, and our team can supply both.

What is the difference between a custom website and a WordPress website?

Custom means the design and the code are written for your site alone, so whatever it has to do can be built into it. WordPress is a ready-made platform with a theme on top, and staff learn its editor quickly. The two also combine: a custom-designed theme on WordPress gives you an original look with that same familiar editor.
