Why teams choose a headless CMS

Your editors want to publish on their own schedule, and your buyers expect pages that load fast on any phone. A headless CMS serves both. Vivid Concept builds the front ends with Next.js and React, as an extension of our custom website design work, for Los Angeles companies that have outgrown a template.

In a headless setup, content is stored and edited in one system and delivered by API to whatever presents it: a website, an app, a kiosk. The front end becomes a separate piece of software built for your site alone, instead of a theme tied to a database.

We build on Next.js 16, released in October 2025, with its faster default bundler and caching we switch on page by page, so your pages stay quick and every update ships sooner.

For your buyers, that means each page can be rendered on the server, generated ahead of time or streamed in parts, and the static shell of a page can appear instantly while personalized parts arrive after it. We choose the approach for each kind of page and keep the framework current as part of looking after the site. This website is built on Next.js too.

Content modeling and the editor workflow

A content editor and a developer edit a page on a laptop while a large monitor shows the live page of abstract shapes.

A CMS is only as good as its content model: the kinds of page, the reusable blocks, the links between articles, authors and products, and the fields that carry titles, descriptions and structured data. Every project has a lead project manager, and we design that model around the way your editors already work, document it where it helps and train your team to use it.

Editors get a preview of unpublished changes, scheduled publishing, roles and approvals, and a media library that enforces alt text. Publishing updates the page through targeted cache revalidation, so a change goes live without a rebuild of the whole site.

The words go into the same model, and our web copy and articles team can write them to fit its fields from the first draft.

An editor updates a page in a clean content editor on a laptop, a developer watching the result live.

Speed, accessibility and search from the start

Speed and accessibility are part of the build itself. Pages are server-rendered, so search engines and assistive technology receive complete HTML, and images are served in modern formats at the size each screen needs.

Third-party scripts load only on the pages that use them. Releases are measured against Core Web Vitals and checked against WCAG 2.2 with automated and manual tests, the standards behind our speed and Core Web Vitals work and our website accessibility and WCAG 2.2 service.

A move from an old site is planned around its search value. Redirects, canonical tags, sitemaps and structured data carry over and are tested before launch, so lost addresses and ranking signals are caught before a visitor ever sees them.

Components, APIs and hosting

A developer and an accessibility specialist test a page with a keyboard and a screen reader on a laptop.

New pages assemble from a library of approved components, which keeps the site consistent as it grows. When several sites or products share that library, we document it as a design system.

Forms, search, payments and CRM calls go through server code or building your own API, which keeps keys out of the browser. The same content API can feed React Native and Flutter apps when you want an app, and a store built this way follows the pattern of headless commerce architecture.

Hosting is matched to the workload, from a managed platform to your own cloud, with a preview of every change, automated tests and a release process that can roll back. Editors who prefer a traditional CMS are well served by our WordPress development, and our web design and development team covers the full range.

Next.js and Headless CMS Questions & Answers

How is this different from WordPress?

WordPress joins content, theme and plugins in one system. A headless build separates them: the CMS manages content and a Next.js application presents it. You gain control over speed and design and a smaller public surface, and the front-end codebase is built and maintained by our team.

Can my staff edit pages?

Yes. Editors work in the CMS with preview, roles and scheduled publishing, and they never touch code. Editing rules built into the CMS keep every page on brand, whoever publishes it.

Which CMS options do you use?

Hosted systems such as Contentful and Sanity, self-hosted systems such as Payload and Strapi, and WordPress used headless. Your editors, your content model and your budget decide the choice, and we compare the trade-offs with you before you commit.

How do you protect search rankings?

Every existing URL is mapped and kept or redirected, and titles, descriptions, canonical tags and structured data carry over to pages rendered on the server. After launch we check Search Console for indexing errors and fix what it finds, which removes the avoidable losses of a migration.

What does hosting cost?

Hosting is matched to your traffic and platform. Smaller sites run comfortably on a managed platform plan, and larger workloads run on dedicated cloud infrastructure. Your traffic and platform decide the cost, and we set it with you in your Free Consultation, so hosting is in your budget from the beginning.
