COMPOSABLE COMMERCE

Headless Commerce Development

Vivid Concept builds headless storefronts in Los Angeles: a custom Next.js front end on the Shopify, Magento or WooCommerce back end that already runs your catalog and orders.

When headless earns its cost

A faster, more distinctive storefront can run on the commerce engine you already trust. A headless store separates what shoppers see from the engine that runs the catalog, cart and orders, and Vivid Concept designs and builds those storefronts for online stores that have outgrown their theme.

The engine stays on your platform, and the front end becomes custom software that talks to it through APIs. Your team keeps the admin it already knows, the platform stays the source of truth for products, prices, stock and orders, and nothing about your operations changes behind the scenes.

Headless pays off when the catalog is large or the store needs pages and journeys a theme cannot express. It also earns its keep when several storefronts for regions, brands or an app share one back end, or when speed on phones decides who wins the sale.

When one of those is true, headless is an investment that pays back in speed and sales. For stores that shine on a theme, we build a custom Shopify store instead, and our recommendation follows your catalog and your numbers.

Front end in React and Next.js

Close-up of hands on a keyboard in front of a product catalogue, boxes blurred behind.

Shoppers get pages that load whole and respond quickly. The front end is a React application built with Next.js, which renders pages on the server so shoppers and search engines receive complete HTML, then hands control to the browser for fast interaction.

Product pages, collections, search, cart and account screens are components built from your design system, so a change to the buy button changes it everywhere. Pages that rarely change are generated ahead of time, while pages with live stock or prices read fresh data.

Content editors work in a headless CMS, the pattern behind headless CMS websites, with previews and roles, while product data stays in the commerce platform.

Commerce back ends and APIs

Each platform exposes its engine differently, and we build to what yours provides. Shopify's Storefront API is a GraphQL interface for products, collections, search and the cart, and Shopify also offers Hydrogen, its headless toolkit for building storefronts with frameworks such as React Router and Next.js.

Magento provides GraphQL APIs for storefront use, and our Magento development team knows that engine well. WooCommerce provides a public Store API of REST endpoints for the cart and checkout.

Gaps get filled properly. Business pricing or stock held in an ERP comes through a connecting service built with API design and development, and outside systems join through API integration services. When no platform fits at all, custom shopping cart development builds the engine itself.

Search, content and personalization

An engineer connects a storefront to a store back end on two monitors, calm and focused.

Buyers buy what they can find. Layouts, autosuggestions and relevant search results do much of that work. A custom storefront goes further than a theme, with filters that match how your buyers shop, a search box tuned to your catalog, editorial pages woven into product pages, and size guides and bundles built into the journey.

We choose a search service by catalog size, connect it to product data and measure what shoppers type and fail to find, which shows you what to rename, add or promote.

Personalization begins with rules you can read, based on what the platform knows, and stays within the consent each visitor has given. Because the front end is custom code, you get a site coded around your goals rather than a template adapted to them.

Performance and checkout design

Speed is the usual reason to go headless, and it only counts when it is measured. Image and script weight get a budget at the start, pages are tested on real devices, and the methods come from our speed and Core Web Vitals work.

Checkout deserves the most care, because it is where a sale is won or lost. On Shopify the cart hands the buyer to Shopify's web checkout, which we extend with checkout extensions; on Magento and WooCommerce the checkout can be built in the front end. Either way, payment, tax and fraud protection run on your proven platform.

Every project has a lead project manager, and launch is planned around redirects from your old addresses, a staged rollout and monitoring of orders and errors. Everything around the store, from the brand site to landing pages, comes from our web development services.

Headless Commerce Questions & Answers

Is headless right for a small store?

Headless is built for growth: large catalogs, several storefronts on one back end, journeys a theme cannot build and speed targets a theme cannot meet. A smaller store launches faster on a well-built theme, and we recommend the route that fits yours.

Which back ends do you connect?

Shopify through its Storefront API, Magento through its GraphQL APIs and WooCommerce through its Store API. When no platform fits your products or pricing, we can build a custom commerce engine instead.

How do content editors work in a headless site?

They use a headless CMS with an editing screen, previews and roles. Marketing pages, guides and banners are edited there, while products, prices and stock stay in the commerce platform your team already uses.

What does it cost to run?

The running costs are front-end hosting, the commerce platform subscription, a CMS and a search service if you use them, and developer time for changes. Each line is covered in your Free Consultation, so the running cost is clear before launch.

How do you protect search rankings in a move?

Each old address gets a permanent redirect to its new one, and titles, headings and structured data carry over. Pages render complete HTML on the server, and after launch we submit the new sitemap and watch Search Console for problems.
